Has anyone ever done the drive from Chicago to LA (more than 2,000 miles all the way, as the song says)? I am at the very early stages of planning a trip for next spring. The idea is to take my 1966 Continental - which will be 50 years old next year - and do the trip in about 2 weeks. Definitely want to stop and see a lot of the cool or unusual stuff along the way, and we’re going to create a short picture book about the journey. (I’ll also try to post nightly pics here as I go.)
Here is a pic of the Conti and some troublemakers for your time.

I’ve always wanted to, ever since seeing the Cars movie. I wanted to take the family’s ‘65 Bonneville convertible and do it, but living so far away from where it begins would make it difficult. I wanted to do Old 40 out to Chicago, and then 66 the rest of the way.
Good luck with it! Also, I am insanely jealous of your Continental. That body style has been one of my dream cars for many years.

I used to live in NM, so I’ve done 66 through most of the southwest.
Bring lots of water in case the car breaks down in the desert...

I live in SF but am planning to ship the car out to Chicago to start off.

Thanks, I read that when it came out and thought to myself I should go back to it for my trip, but totally forgot until you reminded me!

There hundreds of others online too you can look at. Definitely worth researching before your trip to pick out where you’d like to stop. Especially for meals and photo ops.

We did it twice in the motor home as a kid. I personally don’t have much info here but my dad would probably be glad to answer any questions. I occasionally stop by landmarks I remember, but a lot has either been destroyed (Lucille’s gas station may or may not still exist in a Hydro, OK) or restored (Blue Whale, which was actually featured on a Target coffee mug) since the trips we took.

Maybe I’m mistaken, but aren’t there parts of RT 66 that don’t even exist any more? I’m sure I’m wrong so someone please correct me if I am
